#NewMusicMondays 24 April 2017

I mean… after last week when Kendrick obliterated the game, this week was always going to be a tough act to follow but follow we must. At the top, we have Playboi Carti with his self-titled mixtape. Skipped him last week but the point of this is to surface good/go-to music and he’s been elevated to one of mumble rap’s most exciting prospects with heavy cosigns from Gucci Mane himself, ASAP Mobb and Lil Uzi Vert. That alone should give an incling as to what you’ll get in this package and is sure worth a listen this week.

Moving on to the Westside… DJ Quik and Problem come through with “Rosecrans” a follow up to their 2016 EP of the same name. The album is very Westcoast with it’s sunshine Cali vibes and bass that would easily work on a Game album, who is one of its many features. Should be a great listen with that nostalgic west sound.

In the curious corner this week, I throw a spanner to the works… Gorillaz with Humanz. Hold on, I know, not rap but they’re alternative which means they span many genres. With a feature list that includes Pusha T, Vince Staples, De La Soul, Danny Brown, D.R.A.M, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better supporting cast outside of a DJ Khaled album. Worth a listen on that basis alone.
